Look for Crystals on Diamond Point

Diamond Point Lookout is a great place to walk around and see if you can find Diamond Quartz Crystals.  Smaller pieces are exposed to the surface after a heavy rain and are easy to find.  Diamond Point Lookout offers panoramic views of the valley below.

Open to Digging October 1 to February 28

Small Scale Digging allowed (one cubic yard maximum).

All holes must be back-filled.

Only Hand Tools Allowed.

Protect Tree roots from Damage ( do not dig closer than sic feet from base of Ponderosa Pine & Oak Trees).

Recreation Collecting only (no commercial collecting).

Surface Collection is allowed year round.

To reach Diamond Point go northeast from Payson on Highway 260 (Star Valley Road) for about 14 miles. Turn west on Forest Road 64 before reaching Kohls Ranch. Follow Forest Road 64 west for 4 miles; then turn south on Forest Road 65 and follow it for about 3.7 miles before pulling off the road and parking.

Digging collection site is closed March 1 to September 30 to protect wildlife in the area. Violators are punishable by fine of $5,000 or imprisonment for not more than six month or both, pursuant to (36 CFR 261.53).
