Fire department will thin forest to protect residents
For the third year in a row, the Christopher-Kohl’s Fire Department has received a federal grant to clear brush to protect homes from the threat of wildfires.
This year’s $200,000 Wildfire Hazardous Fuels Mitigation grant through the state department of forestry is the largest so far for the small department,

SEDONA, Ariz. – The Red Rock Ranger District of Coconino National Forest will be hosting demonstrations at the Visitor Center and heritage sites for visitors to learn about the ancient technologies of native people.
The demonstrations show how native people met their needs for food,

Four national forests are actively engaged in a collaborative, landscape-scale initiative designed to restore fire-adapted ecosystems in the Southwestern Region. Those forests are the Kaibab, Coconino, Apache-Sitgreaves and Tonto. Together with a diverse group of stakeholders, the four forests are working to collaboratively plan and carry out landscape-scale restoration of ponderosa pine forests in northern Arizona.

On Jan. 30, 2014, the United States Senate voted 67-32 to approve the Homeowner Flood Insurance Affordability Act (S. 1926), sponsored by Senators Menendez (D-NJ) and Isakson (R-GA).
This bipartisan legislation, an NAR member priority, calls for a 4-year timeout on rate increases triggered either by a property’s sale or a flood map update for a property with previously grandfathered rates.
